SUMMER LIPS / SORTED

l-r: Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter in Sorbet; Topshop Lipstick in Macaroon; L'Oreal L'Extraudinaire Liquid Lipstick in Nude Ballet; Barry M Gelly Lips in Capella; MAC Impassioned; Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm in Unapologetic; Topshop Lipstick in Ooh La La.

Hey!  Happy Friday!  I know everyone says this at the beginning of each new month, but I really cannot believe how quickly this year is going.  It's kind of scary; in some ways I want it to hurry up because of things that I'm looking forward to, but I definitely don't want time to just fly by!

Today I thought I would post about my top picks for summer lips.  I have featured a number of the pictured lip products before, so I won't get into a full blown review of them all.  My favourite shades are all orange and pink hues, since getting into blogging I have experimented so much more with colour and the colours I wear now are a far cry from the old days where I thought it was red or nothing!  Blue toned reds don't suit me at all, so I stay clear of them now and opt for more pink colours.

I threw in a nude, the L'Oreal L'Extraudinare in Nude Ballet, because sometimes a natural shade is just as feminine and summery as a bright one.  I will do a full review of this recent buy, but so far so good!  It's different to the others out there at the moment, and the staying power is pretty impressive too.

What shades will you be reaching for this summer? xx

FOTD FRIDAY # 6 | ft. REVLON MATTE BALM STAIN

Hey!  Today’s Face of the Day isn’t majorly different to my other recent ones because in general I am really loving the make up I currently use.
I am wearing one of my new Revlon Colourburst Matte Balm stains today, in the shade Elusive.  It really love the finish of it and the colour is a slightly muted pink that works well with a natural make up look.  Apologies for my fringe, apparently today it decided it wanted to be all nineties and arranged itself into curtains.  I could almost pass for a boy band member, or Leo’s stunt double in Titanic!  The rest of my hair has salt spray in it,  and it definitely does  not look like some of my favourite bloggers’ when they’re using it!  So if you can tell me me where I’m going wrong with it or have any tips for getting textured hair not caught-in-a-gust-of-wind hair then I’d be very grateful!
What make up have you been loving this week? xx

REVEW | REVLON COLOURBURST MATTE BALMS

revloncolourburst

Hello!  Today I just thought I would just give a quickie review of the already infamous Revlon Colourburst Matte Balms.  I bought two, in the shades ‘Unapologetic’ and ‘Elusive’.  ‘Elusive’ is a daytime/work-friendly shade that is a dusky, soft pink and ‘Unapologetic’ is a bright coral pink that just oozes summer.  I bought them when browsing Boots’ 3 for 2 offer, these were the two shades that stood out most to me and I preferred the finish to the lacquer balms.
The pigmentation of these products is excellent, the level I would expect of a much higher end lip crayon so that is a massive bonus.  The worry I had with these was that they may be drying on my lips because of the matte finish, and as someone who is forever battling dry lips I can say that this is thankfully not a problem at all.  They feel incredibly soft on application and you can tell that they are balm based.  The matte finish is perfect if you prefer a more subtle look, or just favour it over a glossy finish.  ‘Unapologetic’ is definitely my favourite, I already know that I will be using this all over spring/summer! ‘Elusive’ will be my go-to for work days, it is subtle enough to just add a pop of colour but it can be built up more for a bolder look too.  Photos will follow on my FOTD post!
Have you tried any of the Revlon Colourburst Matte Balms? xx

OOTD | Statement Cross Necklace & Mustard Topshop Jumper

PicMonkey Collage7
jumper:Topshop, trousers:George@Asda, Necklace:Topshop sale, lips: Revlon Lip Butter ‘Tutti Frutti’
Hey!  So this is my new favourite jumper.  Is it mustard colour?  I reckon it’s probably not to everyone else but to me that is what I keep thinking of when I look at it!  I feel that we were meant to be together, since I only came to own it as I had to return some trousers that didn’t fit (Topshop sizing clearly doesn’t account for the fact that I eat more and more as the Christmas season approaches).  I was ready to get a simple refund but then this beaut caught my eye and the rest is history.  It is actually a tad greener than the photo shows, but in general it looks pretty much as bright and loud as you can see there!  There are only certain bright colours I like, and I can’t say that they are always a certain type because sometimes I will see something different and I just have to have it.  A bright jumper like this is ideal to put on to add (a lot of) colour to a black, wintery outfit.  Along with the jumper just had to come this statement necklace, which was a bargain at £5 in the jewellery sale.  I really love big necklaces, and I think that the red on the crosses on this one clash perfectly with the jumper and overall it completes the look nicely.  The trousers are my trusty patterned ones that I found online at George@Asda of all places, I love them and still look at them thinking that they could easily have come from River Island or somewhere.
I really really hate how my hair looks here, the frizz is unreal considering my hair isn’t even curly or anything.  Hopefully though I am on the way to sorting it out and leading it down the path to smoothness, starting with the addition of a paddle brush.  I had heard a lot of bloggers raving recently about the Michael Mercier brush, which is a rounded paddle kind, but at £12.99 I just thought of 7348932091432 other things that I would rather spend that amount of money on, so I opted for a similar kind from Tres Semme for £6.99.  I have to say that it is hands down the best thing that has happened to my hair since..ever!  I cannot believe the difference that one different kind of brush has immediately made to my hair, especially after spending far too much money lately on various ‘anti-frizz’  products that just don’t live up to their claims.  But anyway, I think that’s a post for another day..!
What do you think of my loud jumper?! Have you made any winter purchases recently? xx

FOTD | feat. Bourjois Healthy Mix & Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo

DSC_0534
Hydraluron Moisture Booster, No.7 Beautiful Skin Day Cream, Seventeen Stay Don’t Stray Primer, Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation, Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer, Benefit Rockateur Blusher, GOSH Brow Pen, Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo in Pomegranate, Maybelline Master Smokey Eyeliner, Maybelline Felt Tip Liner, MaxFactor Masterpiece Max Mascara, Maybelline Fit Me Powder, Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Plum.

This is one of those photos that was achieved after around 234343545422189867.654 attempts, and even now I’m not feeling it at all so I have resigned myself to thinking that it was a bad day for taking blog photos.  Anyhow, this is my current everyday face!  It is made up pretty much entirely of drug store products, which isn’t unusual for me since I can only buy high end make up as a treat.  I have been using Laura Mercier Silk Creme foundation for a while, which I love but then I stumbled across this Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation and became curious.  I love everything about this base, I can see why Healthy Mix is very hyped amongst bloggers!  The coverage is good, which is the first thing I always look for, and I love the dewy but not shiny finish it leaves.  The only thing is that I am paler now than when I bought this back in the summer so I probably be better off with a shade lighter than this one.
Maybelline is getting a lot of love from me lately, as you can see from my list of products.  I think they have some really good eye make up lately and the 24hr Colour Tattoos are my latest favourites.  I am wearing the shade Pomegranate and in my opinion it brings out the colour of my eyes, which was a bit of a surprise at first but not an unwelcome one!
My trusty Revlon Lip Butter is on my lips, and the best thing about wearing these is that they keep your lips moisturised all day.  I suffer from ridiculously dry lips all through the year so when I discovered these I was so so happy, and I pretty much chucked my boring vaseline tin out of the window with glee.  I actually still have the Vaseline, but it sits unloved in a distant drawer for now.
What have you been loving in your daily make up lately?  Do you love any of the same products as me? xx

Review | Revlon Lip Butters in ‘Creme Brulee’ & ‘Sugar Plum’

Oh I cannot tell you how good it is to have some new Revlon Lip Butters in my life!  I wore my favourite shade ‘tutti frutti’ all summer and thought it was about time that I added some autumn appropriate shades to my collection.  I decided on ‘Sugar Plum’ and ‘Creme Brulee’, although I can already tell that some more will soon be joining them, I can’t resist ‘Wild Watermelon’ for much longer!
‘Sugar Plum’ is a dusky pink shade with deep berry tones that I absolutely love.  It gives a good amount of colour without being too much, it would be ideal for anyone who wants to add a bit of colour without going all out with full on lipstick.
‘Creme Brulee’  is a nude/peach shade which I have to say is my new all time favourite lip product.  I have been wearing it to work as it is really subtle yet is pretty pigmented and gives a healthy glossy finish.  I sometimes find that nude lipsticks don’t give that much colour payoff (cannot believe I just used that phrase), but considering this is a lip butter the colour is good and lasts a good few hours before I need to reapply.  This shade is perfect if you are a fan of the sixties look, wear it with some thick eyeliner and a shift dress and voila!  The sixties is my favourite decade in terms of…well, everything, so this shade will be a staple for a long time I think.
Have you tried any of the Revlon Lip Butters?  What do you think of these shades? xx

Revlon 2 for £10 | Just Bitten lip stain & Lash Potion mascara

DSC_0287
Hey!  So yes, the title says it all really!  I went into Boots knowing very well that I didn’t need anything, and the latest offer on Revlon products, 2 items for £10 caught my eye.  I thought it was a pretty good deal since the Lash Potion mascara was £9.99 on its own, so I picked up one of those and a Just Bitten Kissable lip stain.
I haven’t tried the mascara yet, but I wore the lip stain today and I already love it!  The colour I bought ‘Rendezvous’ is similar to one of the Revlon Lip Butters I have, it’s a nice soft orange shade that is really moisturising and can be built up depending on how bold you like to wear it.  I think this will be my new favourite for a while, at least until the next new product comes along!
Also, since taking the photos for this post, my latest foundation has arrived; I’ve bought Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation after hearing great reviews about it, and also seeing that they have a shade that might just be the right shade of pale for me, so fingers crossed!

Have you tried either of these products?  xx
p.s  For anyone that may have seen this post before… I made a boo boo and named it Bourjois rather than Revlon, being the wally that I am!  Sorry about that, it will teach me not to write posts too late at night when I’m half asleep/watching The Tudors ;) xx

Face of the Day

Face of the Day

DSC_0059
Clinique Even Better Foundation, Maybelline Fit Me powder, Benefit They’re Real Mascara, Benefit Sugerbomb Blusher, Urban Decay Naked 2 ‘half baked’, Maybelline liquid eyeliner, Benefit Big Beautiful Eyes kit (brows), Revlon Lip Butter ‘Sorbet’

Hey!  Face of the Day post today, I’m wearing all the new make up that I bought last weekend and thought I’d show it all in action.  This photo doesn’t do the Clinique Even Better foundation justice, it actually has a really dewy finish that makes my skin look really healthy for once.  When I do a full review of it I’ll try and get a better picture of it.  So far I’m loving it and it’s oil free so should be fine for my oily combination skin.

The Benefit They’re Real mascara was a repurchase, so I already knew it was good!  I still think that my favourite mascara of all time is MaxFactor False Lash Effect because of the amazing volume as well as the lengthening, but my eyes are a little sensitive to it for some reason :( so I have left it off for quite a while.

The Revlon lip butter in ‘sorbet’ is another very recent purchase, and I’m loving it as much as the other shade I have.  These lip colours are great for daytime and the fact they’re moisturising too means it’s a win win situation for me!

I haven’t reviewed the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette on here before because I thought that there were more than enough reviews of it out there already!  I really enjoy using it, the shades are a great match for my pale skin tone and so many different looks can be created with them.  It’s very pricey, but if this lasts me for ages which I think it will, then I don’t mind.

My hair was put into my trusty hair donut for the day, because it was looking rubbish so I had to put it up.
What make up have you been loving lately?  Have you tried any of the products that I’m currently using? xx

Review | Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti

Revlon Lip Butter in Tutti Frutti

Hey :)!  I’m still taking advantage of the Boots 3 for 2 offer, so yesterday before work I popped in and picked up a few more bits, one of which was this Lip Butter by Revlon in Tutti Frutti.  For some reason, I have never bought one of these before, even though they are rated by so many bloggers!  I guess I thought that they wouldn’t be very colourful considering they’re predominantly a lip balm, but I have been very pleasantly surprised.  I chose this shade because I think coral colours suit my pale skin the best, and it’s also a nice summery colour.

After using it for the first time, I am really happy with it, it is far more pigmented than I thought it would be.  It’s obviously not like a full on lipstick but more like a tinted gloss, which is actually ideal for day time and work.  It’s a great pop of colour but not too full on like some of my other favourite lip products, so it’s a happy in between shade that I really love.  I think it looks refreshing and healthy, with a lovely glossy finish.

And then of course there is the fact that it is a lip BUTTER, which feels really moisturising and ideal for these protecting my lips on these unnaturally cold spring days!  The smell and feel of it reminds me of cocoa butter a lot, which is no bad thing, and it left my lips feeling soft and moisturised.

The packaging is lovely on this product, I would never buy something just because the packaging looks good but it does help :).  The colour of the lid reflects the colour of the product which is handy, and the textured pattern makes this look really high end and expensive, whereas sometimes cheaper lip products can look a bit plasticky (not a real word oops) and tacky.

I will definitely be adding more shades to my collection now, especially as they are so reasonably priced (around £5.99) and are ideal for day wear.

What do you think of the Revlon Lip Butters range? xx
