foundation, foundation, foundation

I thought I would do a review of some foundations that I have used recently.  Foundations are the make-up product that I buy the most by far!  I always look for new ones because I'm determined to find the perfect one that has full coverage without being cakey and has a nice glow.  This is more difficult to find than it sounds, so here are a few that I've used over the last few months:

(sorry about the pics :\ ) This is the most recent foundation I've bought, it's MaxFactor Experience in Raw Silk.  I bought it because the girl at the counter said it was full coverage which is what I always want.  The first thing I noticed was that it was quite thin and runny for a full coverage product, and when it's on it does give quite good and even colour, but I would say that it's more light to medium coverage rather than full.  I had to use quite a bit of concealer and then some translucent powder to make my skin look properly covered, I would say that for around £9.99 it is a good buy if you want a foundation that is quite light and has a matte finish, and this also doesn't contain any oil either so I would think that it's good for oily skin.

This is No.7 Instant Radiance foudation, and I got it a while back when I had one of those No.7 vouchers.  I think this one would have been fairly good if the colour had been a better match, but I got the palest one because the others were too dark but it has a bit of a yellow tone to it that does NOT look good! Apart from that the coverage was good and it has a nice dewy finish so I was pretty disappointed that I couldn't use it more because of the colour :(

Next up is Mabelline Dream Satin Liquid in Ivory.  I have repurchased this foundation a couple of times now, which is a big deal for me and means that it is doing the job!  It is full coverage and it really does give me quite a flawless and dewy finish.  I have combination skin so it is sometimes difficult find the right product, but this comes close to being THE ONE!  The only thing that's a bit of a downside is that after a couple of hours on my t-zone the dewyness becomes more of a shine and I have to re-do it or powder it, but I'm starting to think that I will need to do this whichever foundation I use, because it's just the way my skin is (as annoying as it is).  But overall this is very affordable and actually does what it says, and I also don't need to use too much concealer on any spots because of the good coverage.

I have written about Estee Lauder Double Wear a couple of times before, but it's what I've been using lately so I had to include it!  I bought it with a voucher, because I don't think I would ever pay £26.50 for any foundation!  It is definitely the best cover I've ever had, and you don't need very much of it either so I suppose the fact that it lasts for ages makes the price a bit more bearable.  It's a matte finish but it does give a bit of a glow which is nice.  As I've said before, the downside is that I do have to top it up a few times on my t-zone, which is a bit annoying especially when I'm at work, but the more I use it, the more I think that it is the best foundation I've used, and I don't think that I will get better coverage with any other product.  It's a tricky one because I would like to repurchase but I just cannot imagine paying that much money for it!!

I remember using this when it first came out and being amazed by it!  I bought it again recently because it was something like £5, and I still think it's ok and definitely gives a matte finish, but whereas it's good at covering the more oily parts of my face, the drier parts like my cheeks are left feeling even more dry and  a bit patchy.  This is probably better again for oily skin, but in general the coverage is good and for the price I can't really complain!

I hope this was at least kind of helpful!  I had mixed things to say about all of them but overall my favourite would have to be Double Wear, even though it's still not perfect!

Do you have a foundation that you think is amazing? xx

  1. It's so difficult buying the 'perfect' foundation. I've used the dream satin liquid in ivory too, but I found it was too dark for me :( I would like to try double wear as I've heard so much about it, though I've been wearing MAC studio sculpt in NC15 at the moment and that is pretty close to perfect (though the coverage is a bit too heavy for everyday. Hmm).

I guess keep on looking! Great post xx
